Michael Carty, born 18Jun1923 at Port Clinton, Sth Aust; Enl.22Sep1942 at Adelaide, Sth Aust (Service Number 35462, Official Number with RANR was PA3157 Home Port of Port Adelaide); served at various depots and also sea service with following ships, Westralia 12Nov-8Dec1942, Manoora 12-16Mar1943, Stuart 01May-07Jun1943, Kanimbla 11Jun-25Jul1943, Bangalow 25Jul-01Aug1943, Hobart 02-07Sep1943, Townsville 11-16Sep1943, Gumleaf 30Dec1943; Disch.21Sep1945 as PO Sto Mech ex HMAS Penguin; post WWII continued in service of RAN until 21Sep1954.
In July 1948 Micahel Carty got into hot water after he, and radio mechanic Michael O'Halloran, left HMAS Kanimbla at Fremantle. They went to a dance at Anzac House and after O'Halloran started making a lot of noise and shouting, Carty hit him. They were escorted away by police and subsequently were both fined at the Perth Police Court for creating a disturbance in St George's Terrace.
