China Netherlands Trading Society 10 Dollars 1.1.1909 Pick S459. Brilliant, original colors of the red dragons on yellow background are seen on both sides of this always popular example. This Empire era banknote was issued by the private trading firm, which along with several firms doing business in China at that time, created their own money payable in the area of trade, invariably to also raise funds for their own operations. The bank issued only two series of notes, one in 1909 and another in 1922. The bank continues to operate today as a part of ABN AMRO bank, but like the Banque de l'Indo-Chine, stopped issuing banknotes for China as focus turned towards territories in Southeast Asia (for the Netherlands, it was Indonesia). A wonderful warrior vignette is seen on the face of this Bradbury Wilkinson designed and printed note. Several features, including the multicolor underprint, remain excellent. This example is the finest graded of only three notes in the PMG Census. Given the strength of this bank and its long operating history, it is unlikely many more would exist today, as they would have been redeemed for silver. PMG Very Fine 30. From the Feeling Good Collection HID08701242017

Estimate: 6000-8000 USD
