World Currency
West Indies Currency Board $1 2.1.1957 Pick 10. An elusive design that is however instantly recognizable to all collectors. At the time of introduction of the British Caribbean dollar notes featuring King George VI, the currency was already officially known as the British West Indies Dollar, which circulated in British Guiana and the Eastern Caribbean territories. In 1958 when the West Indies Federation was established, this series of notes were proposed, using the same designs and layouts featuring Queen Elizabeth II and the new West Indies name. However, due to various reasons the old design and larger format was retained and these notes were never issued. After the breakup of the West Indies Federation in 1962, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank took over issuance with the first issue of the East Caribbean Dollar. This uniface design is well embossed, and printed on banknote paper with watermarks and security threads. The back was most likely left blank as it previously featured the seals of individual states.
