AUSTRIA. Klippe Ducat, 1529. Vienna Mint. Ferdinand I (1521-1564). PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder.
3.34 gms. Fr-22. Siege issue. Mintmaster Thomas Beheim arranged this Emergency Klippe coinage during the first Turkish siege of Vienna by the forces of Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, which lasted from September 27 to October 15, 1529. Typical quality for the issue, likely once used in jewelry, with several soft undulations in the flan as well as instances of careful metal manipulation to either increase the appearance of luster or embolden the existing design detail. PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder.

From the John Whitney Walter Collection.
