AUSTRIA. Windisch-Gratz. Ducat, 1733. Leopold Viktorin Johann (1727-46). NGC AU-55.
Fr-906; KM-6. Draped bust right of the Imperial court official and diplomat, who received the coinage right from Kaiser Karl VI in 1730; Reverse: Hounds support triple-crested quartered arms, titles as Privy and Hereditary State Counselor, High Constable of Styria. The Windisch-Gratz were of the highest nobility, privileged to marry into the Imperial family itself. These noble ties would continue for centuries in the future, as Prince Lajos Windisch-Gratz was a cabinet minister of the last Habsburg, Emperor Karl I in 1917-1918. From a VERY RARE two-year type issue (1732-33), this example remains rather attractively preserved, with bold prooflike glow that suffuses the fields and sharp detail, which is particularly evident in the ornate reverse arms. Offered infrequently, the last example of the type to sell at major auction, which appears to have been in very comparable condition, was offered by Sincona in May 2017 and brought a hammer of 6,000 CHF (approximately $6,000 hammer). NGC AU-55.

Estimate: $4000.00- $6000.00
