BRAZIL. 6,400 Reis, 1746-B. Bahia Mint. Joao V (1706-50). NGC MS-63.
Fr-51; KM-151; LDMB-O146. A VERY RARE date from the Bahia mint, this being the first unregulated example (this date appears to have circulated extensively outside of Brazil, often resulting in a "regulation" hallmark from a local merchant to assure metal content) to appear on the market since the finest certified example, a NGC-graded MS-64, was sold at auction in September 2011 (Heritage sale 3015, lot 23639). This example, entirely radiant, better struck and without notable planchet flaws, should cause great excitement for the specialist of the series.
