BRAZIL. 20,000 Reis, 1862. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder.
Fr-121a; KM-468; LDMB-O682. A wholesome example of this VERY RARE Pedro II issue, displaying a bold strike and a moderate number of intermingled surfaces marks which is typical of the type. One of very few seen and the only example certified by PCGS (although the NGC census oddly has recorded 44 submissions - possibly in error?), with only two cited modern sales; the first being part of the Norweb collection (Spink America - 3/1997) where an example cataloged as VF brought $11,000 and the other, presumably the finest known with a MS-61 grade, was sold as part of the RLM collection (Heritage 1/2014) and brought $28,200. Considering the 15+ year spacing between the offering of the previous two examples, this marks an important opportunity for the Brazilian specialist to acquire this classic key date.
PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder.
Estimate: $7000.00- $12000.00
