ECUADOR. 8 Escudos, 1852/0-GJ. Quito Mint. NGC MS-61.
Fr-8; KM-34.1; Onza-1172. Ideally detailed for this often incomplete type, with strong separation between all of Bolivar's hair strands and impeccable detail within the reverse coat-of-arms. Bold, frosty luster also contributes significantly to the appearance and only minor marks and slight grazes limit the grade. The Lissner specimen, graded MS-63 by NGC and believed to be the finest known, brought $55,000 hammer when it was offered in 2014. As such, this example, only slightly lesser, should excite the type collector and the specialist alike. NGC MS-61.
