FRANCE. Ecu, 1683-9. Rennes Mint. Louis XIV (1643-1715). NGC AU-58.
Dav-3805; KM-226.13; Gad-210; Dr/5-432. Although some sources call this type an "ecu Parliament", it is more accurately known as an "ecu a la cravate" and is a rather scarce type of 1679 to 1684. The mintmark, a "9", if often interpreted as a Arabic numeral, but is actually an early form of the apostrophe. Perhaps the finest example of this type we have offered, this piece is well struck and nicely toned with only light haymarks and planchet adjustments over the surfaces. NGC AU-58.
Estimate: $1800.00- $2400.00
