FRANCE. Ecu, 1690-9. Rennes Mint. Louis XIV (1643-1715). NGC MS-63.
Dav-3811; KM-275.21; Gad-216; Dr/5-457. An "ecu aux 8 L" from the first reformation of 1690 to 1693. Reformations (a form of capital levy) occurred again in 1693, 1701 and 1704. This date is notable for having an upside-down mintmark ("6" vs "9") but is not otherwise scarce. This example, struck from eroded dies, is quite the anomaly in terms of preservation however, with sparkling luster over nearly brilliant surfaces and strong detail within the designs. Only the slightest traces of undertype are visible. Undeniably a world-class survivor. NGC MS-63.
Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
