FRANCE. 2 Louis d'Or, 1724-A. Paris Mint. Louis XV (1715-74). NGC AU-53.
Fr-458; KM-471; Gad-345. As an issue, this double louis d'or Mirliton type was struck only at the Paris mint between 1723 and 1724. The salvage of the wreck of the French troopship Le Chameau in 1965 recovered hundreds of the louis d'or Mirliton, but none were of the demi-louis or double louis denominations. Appealing quality, this example is sharply struck with antique copper-gold tone that caresses both sides. Several as-made planchet annealing streaks, as is typical for coinage of this period, run across the obverse surfaces, but blend admirably with the coin's "fabric". VERY RARE and seldom offered as a type. NGC AU-53.

Estimate: $10000.00- $15000.00
