FRANCE. Ecu, 1792-A. Paris Mint. Louis XVI (1774-92). NGC MS-63.
Dav-1335; KM-615.1; Gad-55. A highly sought and ephemeral issue, struck during the period when France's masses had collectively pushed their weight to adopt a new constitution and had all but decided to end their time under monarchical influence. Among the finer examples we've seen, numerous attributes about this coin stand out, but perhaps most immediate is the strike. Profoundly defined, we see no area of weakness and in fact, the central motifs rise prominently from the fields, with alluring dimensionality in the back of Louis XVI's head as well as in the standing genius and constitutional tablet motif on the reverse. Further evidence of this exceptional strike appears in the outer dentilation which appears wonderfully sharp, creating a slightly dished frame for the rest of the coin. Highly original as well, alluring old tone envelopes the nearly prooflike fields. A coin that will undoubtedly fit seamlessly into any refined collection it enters. NGC MS-63.

Estimate: $2500.00- $3500.00
