FRANCE. 5 Franc Essai, 1815-A. Paris Mint. PCGS SP-64 BN Secure Holder.
cf.KM-Pn22; Maz-729a; VG-2444. Obverse: Laureate bust of the king; Reverse: Crowned arms of France in a wreath; "PIECE DE 5 FRANCS" around, date, mintmark and privy mark below. This pattern by Droz (most famous for creating the ecu de Calonne pattern of 1786) was struck in silver (Maz-729), bronze (shown here) and tin (Maz-729b). An attractive survivor of the type, displaying smooth brown in the fields and faded red color around the protected elements of the design. No spots or focal-area marks are seen. PCGS SP-64 BN Secure Holder.
