Fr-292. Bust of Maximilian II right; Reverse: City scene, denomination above, "S.P.Q.W." below. Issued for Wurzburg, which was annexed by Bavaria in 1803. See also the similar Rhinegold Ducat (Fr-278) also issued in 1850. A RARE type, unlisted in the SCWC. Appearing from time to time in German auctions, but very seldom in American sales, this being the first we have offered. An amazing example thereof, this piece possessing vivid orange gold tone and intense prooflike qualities in the fields. The finest example graded at NGC. NGC MS-63.
