GERMANY. Hesse-Cassel. 2 Ducats, ND. Karl I (1670-1730). NGC AU Details--Damaged.
Fr-1276; Schutz-1498; KM-unlisted. Large bare head right with flowing locks, surrounded by the simple title: "CAR. D.G. HASS. LAND."; Reverse: 7-fold crowned arms of the Landgraviate, wholly anepigraphic (without legend). A desirable large denomination issue with impressively rendered high relief features in the obverse bust design and gleaming luster that sparkles in the fields. A small circular dig in the upper right field on the reverse is the reason for the "details" grade. Despite the flaw, VERY RARE as a type, with the last appearance at major auction being in 2014 at Hess-Divo, where an example brought 20,000 CHF hammer (approximately $21,000 at the time). NGC AU Details--Damaged.

Estimate: $9000.00- $12000.00
