GERMANY. Mainz. Ducat, 1795-IL IA. Friedrich Karl Josef (1774-1802). NGC MS-63.
Fr-1682; KM-410. The archbishop of Mainz was a prolific issuer of gold in the Middle Ages but production had dwindled by the eighteenth century. This is one of three different ducats issued in 1795; the following year, Mainz was occupied by French revolutionary armies and her coinage ceased. This example is choice, with only a few minor instances of handling. Our first offering of this type since Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009, lot 8462). NGC MS-63.
Estimate: $1500.00- $2000.00
