GERMANY. Saxony. 2 Talers, 1657. Johann Georg II (1656-80). NGC MS-62.
56.88 gms. Dav-7629 (LS-398); KM-460; Schnee-897. Impressive, housed in an extra-large holder to accommodate its immense size. Second finest certified at NGC, only one finer (MS63). A very regal looking Elector of Saxony mounted atop his horse, sword in hand. Johann George II was an adept statesman who successfully positioned Saxony such that the French and Austrians competed for influence. His real passion was for the arts, and the imagery displayed in this terrific looking Double-Taler fully reflects that proclivity. Our first offering since November 2015 (Baltimore, lot 39172). Sharply struck, handsome toning, problem free with light doubling. Exceptional and quite attractive. NGC MS-62.
Estimate: $6000.00- $8000.00
