S-3225; KM-Pn25; Fr-273; North-2744. Laureate head left of the Lord Protector by Thomas Simon. Although often referred to as a pattern, Spink states that there is nothing to suggest that the type was not intended for circulation. Coin turn. Grained edge. Damage refers to a scuff mark on neck from long ago since toned over that breaks the stippling pattern on the bust. Attractive old cabinet tone with luster in the protected areas. Despite the noted defect on the slab insert a lovely example with good eye appeal sure to please. NGC AU Details--Damaged.
