S-3766; KM-656. Octagonal Bank of England countermark on a Mexico City 1798-MoFM 8 Reales. Both countermark and host are nicely detailed with pleasant gray brown centers and peripheries that hold light multicolored iridescence. While blending well into the overall appearance, a small area of corrosion is noted along the edge just to the right of the date with very faint interior scratches from attempted softening. Countermark AU standard, host coin. NGC AU-50.
