GREAT BRITAIN. "Una and the Lion" Fifteen Piece Proof Set, 1839. PCGS PROOF-62 CAMEO to PROOF-65 CAMEO Secure Holders.
S-PS3; Fr-386, 387a & 389a; WR-278, 303 & 343; KM-PS5. A stunning complete 1839 Proof set featuring the most desirable and beautifully rendered coin of Victoria, the famous pattern Una and the Lion 5 Pound. Accompanying this prized rarity are all the denominations from the Farthing to the 5 pounds, including the Maundy set. The set has clearly been together since it was issued.

5 Pounds. Medal alignment. Proof-63+ Deep Cameo Secure Holder. Brilliant gold with boldly reflective mirrored fields and frosty devices that handsomely showcase the William Wyon's classic design. A few faint hairlines in the fields but a magnificent coin, nonetheless. Six full scrolls on front fillet and eleven leaves on rear fillet with "DIRIGE" legend. Lettered Edge.

Sovereign. Plain Edge. Proof-63 Deep Cameo Secure Holder. Brilliant gold with reflective fields and satiny devices. Light hairlines, but fine die finishing lines are also noted in the fields and not to be mistaken as anything other than as made.

1/2 Sovereign. Plain Edge. Proof-64 Deep Cameo Secure Holder. Brilliant gold and orange undertones with strong contrast between the devices and fields.

Crown. Proof-62 Cameo Secure Holder. Boldly reflective fields and satiny devices. Smokey gray toning throughout.

1/2 Crown. Plain Edge. Proof-64 Cameo Secure Holder. Strong satin-finish devices against mirrored fields. Rich rose, violet and steel blue iridescence over much of the surface.

Shilling. Plain Edge. Proof-64+ Cameo Secure Holder. Bold eye appeal accentuated by the strong cameo contrast and vibrant toning. Soft fuchsia and azure dominates the portrait and surfaces.

Sixpence. Proof-64 Secure Holder. Toned even more intensely than the shilling and equally attractive. Though not identified as such, good contrast is seen between the fields and satin devices.

Fourpence. Medal alignment. Proof-63 Secure Holder. Plain edge. The eye appeal is excellent. Rich russet toning.

Maundy Fourpence. Proof-64 Cameo Secure Holder. Delicate blue-grey toning throughout with mottled iridescent blues and fuchsia on the reverse.

Maundy Threepence. Medal alignment. Proof-65 Cameo Secure Holder. A visually striking gem with mottled blue, gold, rose and green iridescence.

Maundy Twopence. Proof-64 Secure Holder. Delicately mottled blue-green, gold and rose. Another lovely near gem.

Maundy Penny. Proof-65 Secure Holder. Rich violet, rose, blue and gold toning mottled over both sides. Superb eye appeal, consistent with the rest of this lovely set.

Penny. Bronzed. Medal alignment. Proof-65 Secure Holder. Deep and pleasing oxblood hues. Bold reflective surfaces slightly subdued and very attractive.

Halfpenny. Bronzed. Medal Alignment. Proof-64 Secure Holder. Stunning chocolate brown with a hint of deep brick red. Bold mirrors and superb eye appeal.

Farthing. Bronzed. Proof-64 Secure Holder. Sharp and satiny on the devices with slightly subdued mirrored fields around. Similar hues to the previous Penny and Halfpenny.

All the pieces are graded by PCGS with Secure Holders. The set includes the case of issue. A truly remarkable and desirable property, highlighted by one of the most famous rarities of English numismatics. The condition and eye appeal in it's entirety is exceptional and worthy of a world class collection.
