GREAT BRITAIN. Queen Victoria's Complete Maundy Sets, 1838-1901. PCGS PL-63 (22), PL-64 (119), PL-64+ (1), PL-65 (104) & PL-66 (10). All Secure Holders.
S-3916, 3932 & 3943; KM-MDS86-MDS157; Bull-3478-3559; ESC-2445-2516; Coincraft-VYMS-005, 015-020, 030-095, 105-120, 130-140, 155-185, 195-210, 220-250, 260, 270-310, VJMS-315-340 & VOMS-345-385. 256 pieces in set. These sets were issued in 1902 to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII. Only five sets are believed to have been made. It is unknown whether these sets were put together from existing Maundy coins or if the coins were re-struck at the Royal Mint specifically for these sets. Today if one were to try to put this set together it would be nearly impossible to acquire matching quality and eye appeal. Clearly these pieces have been kept for a long period of time undisturbed in this custom case, resulting in beautiful, rich colorful toning on each. It is a lovely well matched set with the majority of examples in PROOF-LIKE 64 (119) and PROOF-LIKE 65 (104). All are graded and certified by PCGS.

The set is housed in a custom fitted presentation case by Sheppard Bros, Jewellers & Silversmiths, 23 Digbeth, Walsall. According to the website http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/articles/Walsall/directory.htm "The Story of Walsall: Early 20th Century Businesses & Shops" (based on the "Walsall and District Illustrated Business Review" which was researched in 1914 and published in 1915): Sheppard Bros was established in 1848 and had an attractive shop with beautifully decorated show windows. Their stock included a plethora of clocks and time pieces, bronzes, a magnificent selection of gold and silver ladies' and gentlemen's wear, the choicest selection of wedding, engagement, keeper and dress rings, brooches, cameos, bangles and a multitude of miscellaneous goods. PCGS PL-63 (22), PL-64 (119), PL-64+ (1), PL-65 (104) & PL-66 (10). All Secure Holders.
