ITALY. Milan. 2 Doppie, 1630. Philip IV of Spain (1621-65). NGC MS-63.
Fr-724; KM-49, cf.Crippa-3/A. Due to the shifting of trade patterns and incessant warfare, Milan in the seventeenth century was no longer the economic powerhouse it had been during the Renaissance. As a result, the gold coinage of this period is all rare and usually poorly produced. Reflecting that reality, this piece displays numerous small planchet voids in the centers, yet the strike is far better than typical and the sparkling luster engulfs the fields. Almost not marks from careless handling appear on either side. Equal in certified grade to the one we sold at the NYINC sale (January 2018, lot 21127) for $3,800 hammer. NGC MS-63.

Estimate: $4000.00- $4500.00
