ITALY. Papal States. 1/2 Scudo d'Oro, ND (1709)-IX. Clement XI (1700-21). NGC MS-63.
Fr-200; KM-717; Berman-2368. Obverse: radiant head of St. Peter, SANCTVS PETRVS AP[OSTOLVS] around; Reverse: papal arms, tiara and keys above. A VERY SCARCE type with strong detail throughout the captivating design. The only other example to recently appear at auction was from the collection of Eric P. Newman, which although graded a point higher than this example, brought a hammer of $2,800 when it sold in 2014. NGC MS-63.
