MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1841/31-DoRM. NGC MS-63.
Fr-68; KM-383.3. Richard Long in 2003 commented, "The 1841 is rather scarce but not rare...XF, AU and BU are known but are rare." We spy three examples in archived auction records (Heritage sale 3035, September 2014, lot 31248, NGC MS-62 with planchet flaw; Stack's Mexico Maxico sale, January 2010, lot 1220, EF cleaned; Ponterio sale 153, March 2010, lot 7148, VF) which corroborates Long's assessment. This example is lustrous and without planchet flaws, though a touch of striking weakness with some roughness deriving from harshly polished dies is noted. A curious die anomaly appears in a spike that protrudes from the back of the eagle's head, which also shows on two of the other aforementioned examples. NGC MS-63.

Estimate: $3000.00- $3600.00
