Fr-145; KM-467; Gomes-31.02. Counterstamped on a 1725-M Brazil 20,000 Reis, by decree of July 21, 1847. Countermark appearing only on raised parts of the Brazilian cross and leaving the reverse shield largely intact. The undertype is well struck with hints of orange peel toning. Rare overall and EXTREMELY RARE in this enchanting quality, this example easily besting the next finest we've seen, a PCGS-graded AU53 that realized a hammer 32,000 CHF in a 2012 Maison Palombo auction (Auction 11, Lot 781). NGC MS-62.
