Stamb-134-1.8; cf.KM-E11. This pattern is distinguished from the production issue (KM 47) by the word ESSAI above the Poissy (thunderbolt) mintmark. Stambuliu notes that this issue was struck in silver (KM E11), brass, aluminum, aluminum-bronze, copper, copper-nickel (shown here), nickel and tin. This example must be among the finest survivors in any metal with surfaces that are unspotted and problem free, with the slightly subdued luster typical of copper-nickel. Extremely handsome overall!
