Ukraine: Shepetivka/ Shepetovka 1 Karbovanets Jewish community bronze token, c.1900; 2.7cm, 7.85g. Obverse: "1 Karb[ovanets]"; Ukrainian legend "Jewish Community Council of Shepetivka" ("ЕВРЕЙЬ ГРОМАД РАДА ШЕПЕТІВЬБКА"). Reverse: cluster of grapes; Hebrew legend "Ha Tzibur Ha Ivri Shel ha Iriya" ("The Hebrew Populace of the City Hall"; 'Iriya' may be mistake for 'Ayara' - 'small town'; there are many spelling mistakes in the legend). A Hassidic center in 18-19th Centuries; the Jewish population was almost 50% of the total by 1900: 7 Synagogues, active Jewish commercial activity & Zionist activity.
