Palestine/Israel: "Efrat" Wine metal label, circa. 1930s/1950s; size: 59.5 x 47.5mm; 7.45g. The plate reads "Established 5640 [1870] | "Efrat" | Jerusalem • Tel-Aviv | 'LeChaim' [To Life - a toast] | Wished by | M. Teperberg". Avraham & Zeev Teperberg established the 1st Jewish winery in the Holyland (Jewish Quarter, Old City Jerusalem); originally called "Efrat"; son Mordechai assumed management, 1905; in the late 1920s - early '30s, Teperbergs received exclusive franchise to produce alcoholic beverages & established plant in Sarona; bankrupt late 1930's when exclusivity ended & re-est. 1950; now 4th largest winery in Israel.
