Palestine: "Agudat Israel" Haredi Jewish-Zionist party 3rd congress ("Knessiah Gdolah") Sela token, 1937; brass; not maker-marked; size: 33.75mm; weight: 12.35g. Obverse: Art Deco/stylized Hebrew letters "Kaf" & "Gimmel" ("Knessiah Gdola") above "Sela" (an ancient coin), between 2 palm trees & "Agudat Yisrael" below. Reverse: map of Palestine with rays & Kaf-Gimmel emblem above Hebrew legend "The Third Great Assembly in Jerusalem 5697". Medallic rotation. The 'Great Assemblies' of the movement are its international conferences, starting in 1923; to date there have been 6. At this assembly members voted against ceding any portion of Palestine (in light of Peel Commission). Like the Zionist movement's "Shekel" voucher, this token was probably also issued in exchange for a donation. In VF-EF; JTM-EP1.
