Palestine/Yishuv: brass jeton with Hebrew word "Yerushalayim" (Jerusalem) stamped on it (ND), circa. 19th Century; size: 2.7 x 2.3cm; weight: 1.1g. Although a value is not pressed into the planchet, in its rudimentary appearance it is reminiscent of the simple tokens issued in Petach Tikva (with the initials "P T"). Although at the turn of the 20th Century it was popular to write Jerusalem as "Yerushalem", the spelling of the city as "Yerushalayim" has existed at least since the days of the Book of Psalms ('Tehilim').
