Israel: "Seu Ziona Ness veDegel" Pal-Bell plate center medallion, circa. 1948-49; size: 145.5mm; weight: 251.65g - a medallic disc normally affixed in the center of plates made by the Mandate-era/Israeli artwork firm 'Pal-Bell' (Moshe Klein / Maurice Ascalon). Legend reads "Set Towards Zion a Miracle and Flag | State of Israel" (a quotation from an 1898 song by Noah Rosenblum); the images - specifically the tower and stockade - relate to the Mandate-era growth of the pre-State Jewish community (the 'Yishuv'), but as the legend refers to "Medinat Israel" it dates from the time after the establishment of the State, but probably immediately after.
