Jewish Synagogues: Czechoslovakia > Prague - ALTNEU SHUL ("Old-New" Synagogue) on right-foreground of colorized photographic postcard by Karel Bellmann of Prague (1910 edition) with printed Czech caption on front & manuscript notation indicating the Synagogue and that it was "1000 years old". Used: postmarked 9 VII 1911(?) from PRAGUE to Josef Rott of the 44th infantry regiment's youth orchestra VIENNA, franked 5h & tied by local machine cancellation; backstamped 15 (July) arrival. Possibly signed on front by sender. The Synagogue is Europe's oldest active synagogue, established in 1270 and survived the Holocaust.
