Judaism in the service of the Kaiser: WWI era Gebete Während der Kriegszeit ("Prayers During the War") angeordnet von Seiner majestät dem Kaiser ("arranged by His Majesty the Emperor") - published by the [Orthodox] Deutsch-Israelitischer Synagogen-Verband zu Hamburg (German-Jewish Synagogue Association of Hamburg); printed by Siegmund Rissensohn; 8 pages including cover, undated (14-10-1915 per handwritten notation on cover) - intact though pages loose as staples missing, folded horizontally 3 times, worn spine + some age spots, page and corner creases. Booklet displays Hebrew prayers & Psalms in period type-face + German translations in period gothic-script; begins with uniquely phrased entreaty for the homeland: "...give Your strong support to the Land of Ashkenaz, our Homeland ("unser Deutsches Vaterland"), bless all the armies of the Land of Ashkenaz, endow us to defeat our bitter enemies... Amen"; includes Psalms 35, 57-59, 75. Subsequent editions of this folio suggest that it was prepared by or involved the city's Chief Rabbi Avraham Shmuel (Samuel) Binyamin Spitzer.
