Festpredigt zum 50 Jährigen jubiläum der Synagoge in München' (Festive celebration of the 50th anniversary of the [Great] Synagogue in Munich) - held on 5 Sept. 1937, Eve of Rosh HaShana by Rabbi Dr. Leo Baerwald; published by the Association of the Jewish Community of Munich; 16 pages including cover - pages intact, 2 horizontal folds, toning at the edges, some creases & minor tears along top edge and one at right-center on cover. The ceremony began with the reading of Psalm 85 of Tehilim, the booklet is a reprint of the Rabbi's sermon with in-line references in Hebrew. An unusual event in the Third Reich, especially after the Nuremburg Laws (1935). Rabbi Baerwald (1883–1970) served as the Rabbi of Munich's main synagogue from 1911 to 1938; served as a military Rabbi in WWI & played a leading role in the German-Jewish immigrant community of New York from 1940 onwards. The Synagogue was destroyed by request of Hitler, who visited the city, less than a year later in June 1938.
