Yishuv/Palestine Mandate Ghaffir hat badge of the Jewish "Notrim" (guardsmen) forces with 2-lug reverse, c.1936-1940s; not maker-marked; size: 34 x 33.5mm; weight: 7.65g. Although the term "Ghaffir" ('Guard' in Arabic) was widely used throughout the British Empire, this badge is unofficially associated uniquely with the pre-State Jewish auxiliary defense force called the Notrim, and worn on brown or black woolen kolpak hats. One of the most sought-after Mandate-era pieces of militaria among Israeli collectors.
