Palestine/Israel: numbered decoration of Irgun/Etzel Zionist-Revisionist underground, circa. late 1940s-early 1950's; not maker-marked; size: 2.6 x 0.85 cm; weight: 3.65g. Single contoured rectangular metal piece w/2 colored stripes, blue & white, on coarse surface, with the Etzel's emblem in circle in center. Reverse: stamped number (1269) & screw; reverse is incused along the area where the organization's emblem appears on the front. Undocumented: some say issued to IZL members in the Jewish Brigade, but serial numbers seen on other examples are higher than Brigade's size. Probably awarded during/after 1948 War in recognition of service, as with Palmach, Haganah & Lechi awards; credible, as official "Etzel Ribbon" created only in 1979 & no mention of "veterans Association" (est. 1961) on this piece.
