Palestine/Yishuv/Israel: pre-State/pre-IDF Haganah member's (platoon commanders course graduate) pin, circa. 1941-48; weight: 0.45g. Although the emblem of the IDF (founded 26 May 1948) is based on the emblem of the Haganah (self-defence militia), the design is nevertheless different in detail than that of the Haganah (see 3rd image comparing one to the other - the arrangement of the leaves on the sword). The Haganah's emblem was designed by Moshe Bar Tikva (Mundak Pasternak), commander of the platoon commanders training course ("Kurs Mem-Mem" [Mefaked Makhlaka]), in 1941. It was decided then that this would be the pin awarded to graduates of that course, and this design in time became adopted by the Haganah as a whole (to this day graduates of the IDF platoon commanders course are awarded this type of pin). Here rare as a Haganah pin.
