Israel: rare Israeli Airforce B-17 "Flying Fortress" bomber sweetheart pin with 6-pointed Stars of David on either wing, circa. 1948-58; not maker-marked; size: 25.5x20mm; weight: 1.65g. This would have been worn by a member of the 69th "Patishim" ('Hammer') Squadron which flew these planes: the IAF acquired 4 in 1948 through covert acquition agents in the US; 3 managed to arrive during the War of Independence after refitting in Czechoslovakia, & their flight leader (former USAAF pilot, Bill Katz) became the commander of this squadron which was created operate them. The 3 bombers remained in Israeli service until 1958, seeing service in the 1956 Sinai Campaign.
