Palmach 40th anniversary commemorative medal, 1981; no makers mark; weight: 32.95g; size: 45.5mm. Obverse depicts the Palmach's emblem with the dates 1941-1981; on reverse the "Hagana" emblem with its motto on left ("With one hand he undertook handiwork and with the other he held a weapon" - from Nehemia 4/11) and "Hagana 1921-1981" below. The Palmach was formed from the Hagana in 1941 though the parent body itself was actually founded in 1920 and not 1921 - perhaps the medal designers wanted round anniversary dates for both forces.
