A note from BCD: If Gitta Kastner had not departed this world so soon, the Munich "numismatic landscape" would have developed quite differently. When this, her first ancients auction catalogue, appeared, the Swiss ancient coin dealers did not hide the fact that they were both annoyed and worried. The financial backing of Egon Beckenbauer, a tough and successful mediaeval and modern coin Munich dealer, the fascinating historical and numismatic notes of Professor Franke, and of course stunning material like the first and best Phanes stater to ever appear at auction, produced a jewel of a catalogue and an auction that was talked about a great deal in the ancient coin circles.
