A note from BCD: Researching the non-illustrated coins in this amazing assemblage can be almost as thrilling as contemplating the superb autotype photographs of the plated specimens. Lot 413 of the first sale, bought by Hamburger, can only be the Paris specimen, Grunauer IX, 1 Serie, 11, 2. Moving on to the illustrated coins, lot 235 of the second sale, acquired by Rollin for 19 guineas for the BM, was the unique frog stater, subsequently copied by Christodoulou, the copies unfortunately deceiving many reputable dealers. In short, this collection can be both a feast for the eyes and the stuff of dreams.
