ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 440-404 BC. AR tetradrachm (28mm, 17.20 gm, 9h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 - 4/5. Mid-mass coinage issue. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet ornamented with three laurel leaves and vine scroll / ΑΘΕ, owl standing right, head facing, olive sprig and crescent moon behind, all within incuse square. HGC 4, 1597. SNG Copenhagen 31-40. A choice bold strike with mirror-like surfaces before the profile. Struck on a large flan elongated horizontally with lots of room before the profile and a huge expanse for the owl to fill. Scattered spots of toning and a touch of roughness through the helmet.
