Justinian I the Great (AD 527-565). AV solidus (20mm, 4.43 gm, 6h). NGC MS★ 5/5 - 4/5, clipped. Constantinople, 7th officina, ca. AD 545-565. D N IVSTINI-ANVS P P AVG, helmeted, cuirassed bust of Justinian I facing, globus cruciger in right hand, shield decorated with horseman motif in left / VICTORI-A AVGGG Z, Angel standing facing, long jeweled cross in right hand, globus cruciger in left; star to right, CONOB in exergue. Sear 139. DOC 8. Strong, crisp strike from fresh dies of exceptionally fine style on proof-like flan. The clipping noted on the holder likely was performed at the mint after striking, to bring the coin into specifications, as it is essentially full-weight.
