Victoria gold "Shield" Sovereign 1879-S AU58 PCGS, Sydney mint, KM6, S-3855, McD-126a. Shield variety, C/O in Victoria. An exceedingly rare and popular Sovereign variety, near Mint State with only the lightest wear and a great deal of residual luster. Exhibits the same die crack at the C/O as seen on the majority of known specimens of this type. The highest known certification for this type is MS63, putting this present AU58 amongst the finest examples of this rare variety. Some contact marks to the fields, but nothing which dulls the mint gleam of this attractive specimen.
