João Prince Regent gold 4000 Reis 1814-R MS61 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM235.2. Very sharply struck indeed, the somewhat irregular flan not disturbing the action of the dies one jot. The color a rich, original honey-gold, the detail so fine as to make one consider that this piece was rather conservatively graded; the obverse shield appears to have been struck with a worn die, whilst the reverse is entirely blemish-free. In summation, a premium piece far above the norm in terms of quality and eye appeal.
