Republic gold 10000 Reis 1899 MS62 NGC, KM496. Mintage: 238 pieces. An extreme numismatic rarity, the key to the Brazilian 10000 Reis series, and one of just three examples certified at NGC. Due to the tiny mintage and poor survival rate of these specimens, few exist on today's market for collectors, let alone in gorgeous near choice Mint State like this illustrious example. Imbued with full luster and evident die polish lines, only minor contact marks to the edge detracting from the grade, this piece surely ranks amongst the finest survivors of this scant mintage. We sold this same coin in our January 2013 New York sale where it realized $12,500 hammer.
