George V 5 Cents 1921 XF40 NGC, Ottawa mint, KM22a. A famous Canadian rarity, in a premium grade for the type. The decision to change the 5 Cent from silver to nickel had a significant impact on this date, with nearly the entire 1921 mintage melted down. Accordingly rare in any grade, the surviving mintage of this issue is somewhere around 460 pieces. This present specimen displays pleasing argent surfaces hosting original delicate luster, clearly a strongly-struck piece as, despite the moderate wear to its surfaces, it nonetheless retains a high degree of detail to the devices. Scarcely represented at this grade level with the majority of examples residing in the F-VF range and with strong eye appeal, this popular rarity is sure to excite collectors of the Canadian series.
