George V "JOP" Counterstamped Dollar 1935 MS66 PCGS, Royal Canadian mint, KM30. A bright and silvery specimen replete with full cartwheel luster and a lightly reddish tinge around the letters in the obverse legends. Currently ranking as the highest graded example from PCGS, this example carries a tiny counterstamp above the date on the reverse, bearing the initials J.O.P for Joseph Oliva Patenaude, a private jeweler in British Columbia. Patenaude countermarked these dollars to mark them out as change, believing that the introduction of a silver Dollar would benefit his mining community. All the more remarkable about this piece is the fact that this post-mint modification to the coin has caused no noticeable disturbances on the obverse, a feature so commonly witnessed on other countermarked issues.
