Only ten examples have been graded in total by PCGS or NGC, 5 of which are XF40 or below, thrusting this XF45 example into the upper tier of quality for those specimens known. The pleasant argent planchet of this 8 Reales has lightly toned at the peripheries into a silky gray-gold, an attractive two-tone effect, the strike very good for the type with limited wear to Ferdinand's portrait. Notably, the reverse is struck 45 degrees off of medallic alignment, an attribute seldom if ever seen on this type.
