Ferdinand VII 8 Reales 1814/3 P-JF XF45 PCGS, Popayan mint, KM71. An exceedingly rare variety, and in a premium grade for the type. Only ten examples have been graded in total by PCGS or NGC, 5 of which are XF40 or below, thrusting this XF45 example into the upper tier of quality for those specimens known. The pleasant argent planchet of this 8 Reales has lightly toned at the peripheries into a silky gray-gold, an attractive two-tone effect, the strike very good for the type with limited wear to Ferdinand's portrait. Notably, the reverse is struck 45 degrees off of medallic alignment, an attribute seldom if ever seen on this type. Rarely do examples of this overdate come up for sale let alone in this level of certification, rendering this a premium offering indeed.
