Central American Republic gold 4 Escudos 1837 CR-F AU58 NGC, San Jose mint, KM16, Fr-2. An immensely popular Latin American piece, one which barely ever approaches Mint State let alone achieving the eye appeal offered by this present specimen. Exceptionally well-struck up, every individual leaf in the Ceiba Tree reverse design discernible, the minute stippling on the mountains sharp; the surfaces exhibit a breathtaking blend of bright lustrous gold and dappled vibrant red tone. The flan is slightly irregular on the reverse, but this is a minor point compared to the magnificent presentation piece this coin represents. Guaranteed to impress even the highest tier of collectors of Latin American coinage, an identically graded example offered in our April 2016 sale realized $16,000 hammer.
